At TimberKnolls Spirit Cove, our giant Newfoundland therapy dogs bring comfort and healing to those in need. In the wake of Hurricane Helene, our mission is clear: to help survivors rebuild their spirits and find hope again.
We're building an animal therapy ranch in Hendersonville, North Carolina—a sanctuary where individuals and communities affected by this devastating storm can heal. Hurricane survivors, first responders, teachers, linemen, veterans, and healthcare workers have all faced unimaginable challenges. The emotional toll of natural disasters often leaves behind silent scars: anxiety, depression, and isolation.
Even before Hurricane Helene, the mental health crisis was urgent due to escalating rates of anxiety, depression, and suicide.
Community heroes such as veterans, healthcare workers, firefighters, law enforcement officers, teachers, and first responders are at the greatest risk. Students are also at enormous risk, with suicide being the 2nd leading cause of death among people aged 10-14.
Our Newfie Therapy Team is here to change that.
These gentle giants, known for their calm, comforting demeanor, offer more than just companionship—they provide life-changing therapy. Their immense size and soft, calming presence bring a sense of security to those grappling with trauma. Their legendary history as rescuers makes them relatable heroes to those who give so much to others but rarely ask for help themselves.
Giant Newfoundland Therapy Dogs. Who can resist a dog as big as a bear but as gentle and loving as a best friend?
Newfoundlands have a personality that brings out the joy and laughter in almost everyone they meet. They offer unconditional love and acceptance,e and their massive size and soft fur create a comforting and steadfast presence.
Animal Therapy is proven to reduce stress and anxiety. Interaction with animals can lower blood pressure and increase healing while reducing recovery time from trauma. It enhances Mood and Social Interaction, reducing loneliness and encouraging social interaction. Animal-assisted activities improve PTSD Symptoms and support emotional resilience.
Spirit Cove will provide a safe space for individuals overcoming illness or trauma and those affected by Hurricane Helene. It will be a home and training ground for animal therapy teams to meet the community's growing needs. The ranch will become a cornerstone for trauma recovery in North Carolina, creating a supportive environment for residents and community heroes.
