The organization was founded with primarily TImberKnoll Newfoundland teams, hence the foundation's name. It soon became apparent that there was no national organization supporting Newfoundland therapy handlers or promoting the breed as a working dog in the community. Newfoundland dog owners were interested in therapy but often didn't know how to get started or registered. Some would need help building relationships in their community once they begin therapy work. 'Newfie Therapy' was created to support Newfie owners interested in working with their dogs through community service. We've created a system for tracking the impact of Newfie Therapy dogs across the nation to help share the story that Newfoundland is
a brave, loving, compassionate,
and gentle Therapy Dog.
Are you registered with your therapy dog and curious about the benefits of joining the national Newfie Therapy network & team? We created this foundation to help our communities and help celebrate the spirit of volunteerism. To promote, engage, and assist Newfie Therapy handlers in their work.
We are not a registering organization, we leave that to the national organizations who have already set the standard for therapy registration, Pet Partners and Alliance of Therapy Dogs. We have an experienced group of Newfie Therapy handlers who can mentor new handlers or help experienced ones navigate the changes in therapy work due to COVID or find new ways to expand your relationships within your community. We reward handlers for their time served and the extraordinary impact stories that they share. Every month, we celebrate a Therapy Dog, yours could be next! You can also earn drool cloths, bibs, therapy vests, and other fun items. If you'd like to learn more or apply for consideration to join the first and only, National Newfie Therapy Network newfie@newfietherapy.org
